Eric Meyer is presently Head of the South Asia Department at Inalco – Institute of Oriental Studies of the University of Paris, where he teaches South Asian history. He has been visiting Sri Lanka since the early 70s and devoted much of his research activities in the country. He has published many articles and books dealing with the modern history of Sri Lanka.
This book attempts to pinpoint, through a study of the island's past and present histories, what constitutes the basis of its multiple identities, which has been constantly nourished by outside elements and shaped over the past two thousand years.
