An author and co-founder of the Perera-Hussein Publishing House, Ameena Hussein is a sociologist whose essays and opinion pieces have appeared in various international anthologies and media including the New York Times. Her work often reflects, celebrates or critiques little known aspects of the Sri Lankan Muslim community. A Fellow of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, she has also taught their ‘Between the Lines’ summer course.
She divides her time between her natal home in Colombo and her off-the-grid retreat in Puttalam on Sri Lanka’s north-west coast.
