Gananath Obeysekere

Professor Gananath Obeyesekere graduated with First Class honor’s in English Literature from the University of Ceylon in 1955, he received his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Washington. He has published extensively and is currently Professor of Anthropology, Emeritus, Princeton University. He has received many awards including the Huxley Memorial Medal by the Royal Anthropological Institute in 2003. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Psychological Anthropology in 2011. His book The Apotheosis of Captain Cook was awarded the Louis Gottschalk Prize in 1993. In 2018 he received the Sahityaratna Lifetime Award and in 2021 won the State Literary Award for Stories and Histories.
