C. Anjalendran is an icon of modern architecture and design in Sri Lanka and a student of the legendary Geoffrey Bawa. After completing his post-graduate architectural studies at the Bartlett of University College of London, where his grandfather had studied mathematics, he returned home and spent some time with his grandfather, C. Suntharalingam. Here, he found original newspaper cuttings of a series of open letters written to Suntharalingama’s grandchildren, which gave an eyewitness account of how Ceylon gained independence.
